Spurning the notion of simple chocolate fountains, or profiterole gateaux, bride Chidi Ogbuta decided to make a full scale model of herself in cake form. For Chidi, “the cake actually fulfilled my childhood dream” and, she was so delighted with the results she submitted her snaps to CNN’s online I-Report so the whole world might enjoy her sugary statue.

And, who knows – now that the idea is out there the Super Sized Bride Cake could become the fixture de rigeur at every sophisticat’s wedding. You might arrive at a colleague’s nuptials to find caviar replaced with cadaver – albeit of a spongey variety.

And, the real wedding showboater might things can be taken one step further. Who’s to say you couldn’t serve a page boy replica made entirely of bruschetta or have the bride tossing a swiss roll bouquet.

Or maybe, it’s all just a bout of madness. As a notion, I don’t think most people would be enthused about serving their guests a bride autopsy. And, think of the downsides. Bakers all over the land will be forced to upgrade to expensive man size ovens and it’s inevitable that some grooms – having footed the bill and when faced with the stark choice - will be hard pressed not to marry the cake.
